Be the Change Events are working together with Keighley Big Local Partnership and jumble sale organiser Rana Begum to bring the all things eco-friendly to Marley Sports Centre on Saturday 30th November, 12-3pm.

Eco-Jumble came about because we wanted to bring affordable and accessible sustainable living ideas and products to the people of Keighley. We all know how important living green is but for some of us it’s just not affordable or practical to live this way. We are bringing together eco products, services and activities in one place to help residents identify where they can make changes regardless of income and encouraging people to sell their own unwanted items as part of the ‘jumble’ to help reduce waste. Read on to find out about just some of our guests!

Zero waste

Richard and Bob of Worth Cooperating will be demonstrating the power of member bulk buying through fairmondo to make the ethical everyday. Thelma of Zero Waste Shop UK, an online market selling sustainable household products and gifts will be bringing a selection of her stock to sell. We are also looking forward to seeing Roots and Shoots Healthstore and Cafe, based on Cavendish Street at the event. Javid will be bringing along refill household products (bring your own bottles) and talking to us about the Terracyle scheme he runs from the shop.

Plastic free

Have you heard of Morsbags? Jill and Julie will show you how easy it is to make these funky zero waste shopping bags which help reduce the need for plastic bags. Speaking of plastic. We also have Plastic Free Communities coming along to share the work they are doing in Keighley, Riddlesden, Bingley and East Morton. They will also be looking for people who can spare some time to help carry on their fantastic work!

Doctor Bike

Dawn Barrett of Move 95, whose aim is to give everyone whatever their financial circumstance or physical ability access to cycling for sport, travel or recreation will be running a Bike Doctor workshop where you can get a free bike health check and receive advice.

Get Out More CIC run outdoor programmes for groups, schools, families and business and will be running a fun food art workshop that everyone can get involved in!

Be the change

It’s looking like a pretty great afternoon! Refreshments available – free if you bring along your empty plastic bottles for recycling! Free entry, small charge for some activities.
If you want to be part of the event or have a table at the jumble sale then get in touch with us at or contact Viky on 07535 686 374.

We’re pleased to announce that £3,250 has been secured to set up and run a “bulk buying” savings group in the Keighley Big Local area. The majority of the funds have been provided by UnLtd who are working with KBL to help local folks with innovative ideas that aim to improve our lives.

The idea behind the “Keighley East Ethical Purchasing” group is simple: a group comes together, adds up what it spends on its weekly shopping baskets and then buys direct from wholesalers and manufacturers to take advantage of bulk buying discounts. This is a tried and tested method of keeping costs down. The innovation here is that “ethical purchasing” will be right at the heart of the group. We want to find goods from suppliers who strive to “do no harm” to nature, planet and people as well as making them easy to buy and affordable.

We want to make the ethical everyday and find food and products that are plastic free, organic, cruelty free, low/zero carbon, locally sourced from companies that pay the living wage and UK taxes!

What’s On The Shopping List?

The first task of the group will be to write a shopping list. We will start with the “must have” essentials that meet the groups ethical criteria: tins, packets, household products etc. In time the range can be expanded to include locally grown fresh vegetables, fruit, bread, cakes etc.

Names are being take from people who want to join the first Ethical Purchasing Group and start saving both money and the planet! If you are interested in joining please get in touch via email or direct message on facebook. The bigger the group, the better discount and the more we can save!
